AVOID THIS COMPANY

This is hands down the worst moving company I’ve ever dealt with. They arrived at my home with a truck that was already three-quarters full of other people’s belongings — even though I was promised a full truck for my move. Instead of honoring the agreement, they expected to split my household into multiple loads.

The movers were rude, the dispatch was dismissive, and on top of that, they look for every possible way to tack on extra charges. It’s a complete breach of their own contract and nothing but stress and wasted time. I had to cancel on the spot and rent a U-Haul just to get my move done.

Avoid this company at all costs — they are dishonest, unprofessional, and will nickel-and-dime you while failing to deliver on their promises.

"A Moving Nightmare: Cargo Movers, Calgary – A Costly Regret"

I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Cargo Movers in Calgary, Alberta. We had previously had positive experiences with another moving company, Tippet Richardson, and we should have stuck with them. When our neighbors recently moved from Calgary to Peachland with Cargo Movers, they had a large 3-bedroom home with lots of furniture and boxes, and their total cost was $3,800. However, our experience with Cargo Movers was nothing short of a nightmare.

When we initially contacted Cargo Movers for a quote, we were moving from Peachland to Edmonton, and we had very little to move – just a small 1-bedroom apartment with no appliances. They provided us with a quote of $2,200.00, plus additional charges for some boxes for our TV and large pictures. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of our problems.

On the day of the move, the movers showed up unprepared. They had no floor runners to protect our floors, no booties to prevent tracking dirt into our home, and they only had a few blankets to protect our valuable items. Our expensive sofa, bed frame, and other furniture were carelessly stuffed into clear bags and bed bags. Even our expensive tables were left unwrapped and unprotected. They also crammed our belongings into wardrobe boxes, treating our delicate and valuable possessions with complete disregard.

The delivery date we had been given was November 2nd, but this date came and went without any communication from a dispatcher to explain the delay. We were left in the dark, wondering when our belongings would arrive. Finally, we spoke to Meagan and our things were delivered on November 4th, causing significant inconvenience, stress and costs for Hotels, etc.

To add insult to injury, the delivery crew informed us that there would be an additional charge for bringing our items up a few stairs to our townhome, which we found utterly unreasonable. They also refused to bring our furniture to the specific rooms they belonged in. With my husband being 73 years old, this was an additional burden we did not need; they wanted to charge us more money for that service!

As if the move hadn't already been frustrating enough, the final price was a staggering $3,900.00 – not including our $200. deposit, nearly double the original quote. Dealing with the accounting staff, specifically Meagan, only made matters worse. She was rude and argumentative, adding insult to injury.

Our experience with Cargo Movers was nothing short of a disaster. From the unprofessional handling of our belongings to the lack of communication, the unreasonable additional charges, and the poor customer service, we strongly advise anyone against using this company for their moving needs. It was, without a doubt, the worst moving experience we have ever had. We will never use Cargo Movers again, and we urge others to avoid them as well.

A great experience receiving our furniture

Sean and his team were great. Not only were they polite and efficient they got here before they said they would be. It was sure nice to end this experience on a good note thanks to Sean and his team.

Not recommend

The more I unpack the more furniture and other belongings I find broken. They only sent 2 movers although I requested 3 and would happy have paid extra. Out of the 2 movers they sent only 1 spoke English. All the furniture they took apart they did NOT put it back together although I was told they would. I have damage to the walls in my new home. They left garbage in my yard. They asked me for tools to do their job. This is Unacceptable.

Brand New Couch Damaged - no Compensation.

Though Cargo Movers was priced more competitively than other companies, and making a reservation was straightforward, pinning down a schedule was a challenge and the MOVERS DAMAGED A BRAND NEW COUCH, WALL, AND DOORFRAME. Because the large couch wasn't ideal to manoeuvre, it was DRAGGED to the point of tearing in multiple spots, it was SCRATCHED on the front, and the wall and doorframe BADLY SCRATCHED. The same couch was moved into the condo by myself and a friend (two untrained movers) without damage.

Their insurance offering is admittedly limited and it would have provided $150 for the couch I paid $5,150 for two months prior, after paying a $300 deductible! When I REQUESTED A COMPROMISE, and $150 compensation to cover the cost of the drywall/doorframe repairs, I was QUICKLY DECLINED.

Because of this experience I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CARGO MOVERS CANADA. Though other reviews are positive, it doesn't seem this company shows compassion or or reasonableness when problems do occur. BEWARE.

If you like professionalism and integrity, look for another company.

Initial contact through [NAME EDIT] seemed promising, and their quoted price was fair, but unfortunately, the company demonstrated zero professionalism or integrity. I'll use point form to keep from turning this into a book. All issues were addressed with the company in writing; their response was the equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders:

- despite having promised no additional charges in writing, they unilalaterally and without authorization put a hefty additonal charge on the credit card before they would deliver. Be forewarned that their position is that once you authorize a credit card payment to them, they can charge whatever they want to your card for 6 months.

- their website promises "room to room" service, but they stacked all the boxes in one room, leaving us to move them around before unpacking (they claimed afterwards that 'room to room' applies 'for the pickup only' - whatever that's even supposed to mean)

- they expected me to remove the blankets from the furniture and assist with moving heavy items (their office says "this is to help them" - so be aware that even though you're paying this comonay a good price to move your goods, you'll be expected to act as an unpaid assistant)

- packing was erratic - metal measuring cups were wrapped in three layers of paper; valuable soapstone carvings were tossed in boxes without being wrapped at all

- contents of desks and dressers were thrown into boxes upside down, and in general in a manner that suggested they were trying to punish us for having them do the packing. A month later, I'm still trying to sort out the mess, and several items have disappeared completely.

- a heavy oak desk was slammed into a wall hard enough to damage both the wall and the desk; the company's response was that damage like this is "in some ways expected" (just part of their service, I guess). In contrast with other movers I've dealt with, they did not bring the damage to our attention or offer to rectify it. They actually said that if I'd moved myself, I probably would have done similar damage (and while that may not be untrue, I wouldn't have had to pay myself thousands of dollars, which somewhat changes the expectations!)

- despite the fact that the move was into a senior's residence in the middle of a pandemic, the delivery driver complained about wearing a mask, had to be reminded by management, and kept taking his mask off in the suite. (Cargo Movers defended him by saying he didn't do this within 6 feet of any seniors - illustrating their lack of understanding and conveniently ignoring the fact that I'm a senior and was in the suite with the maskless driver most of the day. They also stated that because their drivers are tested twice a month, they're "completely safe".)

All in all, I could not possibly recommend this company. It doesn't matter what they promise you up front in terms of price, service, or anything else, they will likely fail to deliver, and when they do, will take no responsiblity whatsoever for those failures. They outright told me my complaints about the lack of professionalism "will definitely be disregarded" because I'm a "good person and....do not mean that" (I actually am a good person - but I totally meant every word of it!).

So if you're looking for a mover who lacks accountability, makes no pretense of keeping their promises, and will treat your home and possessions like yesterday's trash, Cargo Movers is the company for you - otherwise, look elsewhere.

Official company response

Dears Lorrain,
You have made absurd claims.
Cargo Movers has charged your mothers credit card as she authorized us to do so , and your brother [NAME EDIT] had it sent to us. As explained to you, we keep your information on file for 6 months and only charge if we provide a service. AS writted on our confirmation email, you do get charged for long walk/carry and or stairs fees. Your mother had a long carry fee. and your mother was charged approximately $400.00 (not including tax and CC fee). We still back our driver because, they get tested twice a month and go into isolation. They were 6 feet away from everyone and so the complaining for having to wear a mask while doing high intensity movements is valid... I am sure you wouldn't want to wear it either. As for the damages. We did not shrug shoulders, we offered our insurance policy which we offer everyone and you were made aware of this prior to booking as well. Furthermore, you even signed a contract agreeing to it. The movers always ask customers to remove the blankets. This is so that if they notice any damages, they can bring it to our attention. The crew for pickup is not the same as the crew for drop off all the time, so you would know your furniture better than anyone else in the room. If you did not like that, you could have rejected and asked them to do it. You have hired movers... not slaves. Also, it would be nice to highlight the fact that we gave you a discounted rate, as well as a seniors discount as well as discounted packing charge, picked up and dropped off on the exact times you wanted and the exact dates you wanted. Please dont be so biased with your bullshit reviews and dont take advantage of a company. A customer is not always right. Ovver the phone, you also made some comments on our drivers english ability and ethnicity which goes to say how much of a racist person you are. For anyone reading this review, if you wish to book and pay for services you have used then please do so, and we will be happy to help you with your move. But if you are looking to scam and be a freeloader like this unkind lady then please do not consider us because we have 0 bullshit tolerance for racist, liars like Lorrain Smith. Furthermore Lorrain, you have also lied about the size of your move. This was a two bedroom apartment weighing in at 4820 LBS.... NOT a one bedroom home! My response may come off as rude for those that do not know the full situation but it is as honest and can be for someone who is a liar like Lorrain... When she confronted [NAME EDIT], our relocation consultant explained why she was charged and all reasons were valid and the customer had nothing to say... writing a review like this is only a sore loser move because she could not get her way!

Very good experience.

A friend of mine recommended Cargo Movers, but of course I checked your online reviews before committing!)..and I'm so glad I went with them.

I've moved five times in the past five years, and this company was BY FAR the best moving company! The man who booked my move was helpful and polite. The movers were on time, quick, and hard working. They brought wardrobe boxes to pack up my hard-to-fit-into-normal-boxes stuff.

Highly recommended!

Excellent experience.

After seven lovely years in Calgary, AB; my husband and I had to make the difficult decision to return to Nanaimo BC. We had used Cargo Movers for a move just a year ago. We called on them again as we had excellent service for our local move full pack and full unpack. We could not have been happier. The crew led by Mike was amazing, respectful and did an amazing job. We couldn't believe that all of the items to be shipped across Canada fit into the Truck. In Nanaimo, once again the crew were efficient, polite and courteous! I would recommend Cargo Movers Canada for a move short or long!
I have the highest regard for the Cargo Movers team!!

Thanks all
Karen Nanaimo BC.

Believe the reviews.

My wife and I moved from the Lower Mainland to Sylvan Lake to be closer to our kids. After 25 years in the same house, we had a lot of memories and special things.
Samantha and Joseph were my email and phone contacts initially. Both were knowledgeable, polite, and able to address our concerns completely.
Rates were very fair, and the movers on each end reflected the same care and attention to detail as the office staff.
Moving is a stressful time, but do yourself a favour and book your move through Cargo Movers.
